    eXTReMe Tracker
  • 1st-3rd Generation

    1st Generation:
Were first built and known as "Emergency survival cockpits." These were cockpits that were simply equipped with rockets and attached to vehicles such as tanks. These cockpits were ejected in an emergency to fly the crew to safety. Further development led to the attachment of legs to allow it to move better. However these new 'walking cockpits' had a limited source of power and was also unarmed. Because of it's limited power and restriction in space from being attached to a tank, the idea of adding more legs for stability became impossible. Thus that number had been restricted to 2, and had also become known as a 'bipod' (sorry, direct translation, I didn't know how else to word it) the very first 'human' mobile weapon.

    2nd Generation:
3 key systems were part of the development of the 2nd Generation 'knightmares':
    1) A multi-purpose manipulator to perform various tasks at the same time
    2) Landspinners (I assume they mean wheels) to increase mobility
    3) Factsphere[huakutosuhuia] sensory system

The development of these 3 major parts though were spanned by limited trials.
For example, the landspinners would acclerate and stop hard causing brutal jams rendering it just about useless in a second test run. The manipulator developed had also been unable to handle high-precision tasks. However this was achieved within the 3rd and 4th generation producing satisfactory results.
Development of the 2nd generation frame soon split into two paths. The first being robotic application and development for the military, and the second relating to the use of social-related programs(?). The robotic application development for the military was at first, entrusted to a special dispatch division(sorry, it doesn't make any sense to me either) of the Britannian Army. However, this research was later given to the authority of the Ashford family who supported the technology and education of the program.
It was also during the 2nd Generation where the use of the name 'Knightmare Frame' was put into use.

    3rd Generation:
As technology progressed, mobility became a prime goal of development in the 3rd Generation since, movement was of great importance in combat operation.
The 3rd Generation in particular marked the use of Sakuradite as fuel to power Knightmares. Coalminus[koaruminasu] that was rich with Sakuradite was discovered to produce a greater output in energy, making Knightmares run more efficiently. By the time the Ashford company and developed and manufactured it's Ganimede prototype; Sakuradite had become a valuable mineral, turing it into a central political issue between Britannia and foreign nations.
When the sakuradite run Ganimede made it's appearance it became one of the greatest sucesses of Britannia and the Ashford company. The pilot of the Ganimede had also become well-known and was knighted before being married to the Emperor of Britannia. However, after her assasination(I would assume they are talking about Marianne - Lelouch's mother here) popularity of the Ashford company development quickly declined. Soon the family and retired from the business and disbanded soon after.
